I’m not sure this storage cabinet was ever cool, but I am sure that I got a great deal on it over the weekend. Here’s what it looked liked when I picked it up. Such a sad and dark looking piece.
Here it is in it’s finished state.
I know! Didn’t it turn out so cute?!? Major transformation.
Both Little Misses got into some crowbar action to remove that ugly and dated country front. That made the biggest difference.
A little damage during removal. Nothing a little sanding and paint can’t hide.
After the front was removed, we worked on removing the doors and hardware.
The door inserts were held together with staples. Easily removed with a hammer and pliers.
A quick sanding and then 2 coats of mixed paint (2/3 Royal Serenity & 1/3 Valspar Ultra White).
Then I grabbed some of my go-to Rust-Oleum metallic oil rubbed bronze spray paint for the original hardware. I like to keep the old hardware if possible and this hardware was in really good shape.
Here it is without the fabric. The color really isn’t that bright of a turquoise, it’s a little lighter than this pic shows.
Slightly distressed and a coat of Minwax Polycrylic, per usual.
My local JoAnn’s Fabric store had this cute fabric. I love the brown birds in the pattern Side note: If you don’t have the JoAnn app, get it. I always get 20%-40% off my purchases. This fabric was only $6.50. I applied the fabric to the original board with Elmer’s Craft Bond Multi-Purpose Spray Adhesive. Super easy and super sticky. The can looks like this:

Popping that scalloped trim off the front made a huge difference. What a bright and cheery piece!
It turned out so cute! Paint that curvy apron sweet little Miss M pulled off and paint it and hang it over a door, or attach hooks for coats/hats or make a sign with it or…
The fabric really makes this piece special. Your creative eye saw the potential here.
